Trend Spotlight: {FAUX} FUR

7:10 PM

Its undeniable that the fur trend has been hitting us hard this season. Even before fashion month began, this classic, vintage take on winter outerwear has been finding its way into our closets.

As with any popular topic in the fashion world, there is bound to be controversy. The controversy with fur is of course, the humane treatment of animals. Animal-rights organization PETA is always advocating about just that. Many fashion designers have been taking notice of this subject and creating garments to reflect it.

Ralph Lauren

Like a multitude of designers this season, Ralph Lauren showcased some class A looks involving fur. Much to PETA's liking, the "fur" on all of Lauren's designs was byproduct shearling. In simpler terms, shearling is sheep fur, and the byproduct aspect means that no sheep were harmed in the post-shearing process. For a line covered in the three f's (fur, feathers and fringe), Lauren did a fabulous job maintaining an authentic look while using humane materials.

Shrimps

Shrimps is a fairly new fashion label from London-based designer Hannah Weiland. With innovative and colorful designs, the brand captures the quirky aspects that are so synonymous with British fashion. And the kicker? All faux fur!

Where to Buy:
Faux fur is climbing the trend charts like crazy. That means it is fairly easy to find faux fur styles in mostly any garment. Coats, scarves, handbags - even shoes! - are available at several retailers you could find at the mall.
