Typically, this trend speaks for itself. But in London, many designers put a unique twist on traditional color blocking with use of richer tones and skewed geometric shapes.
If you weren’t convinced of the trend before (see: Rodarte), then perhaps this will convince you. The blouses adorned with Darth Vader’s face suggest that Preen has a bias toward the dark side. Whatever the reason for the second Star Wars tribute, it is impossible to deny this increasing fashion movement.
On February 17th, Elle magazine’s Twitter page called this show “The most important thing to happen in London today.” The iconic British label brought to the runway an array of designs in cohesive colors and Impressionist-style prints. Each look includes a different version of the highly anticipated Bloomsbury bag, all of which are “hand painted and one of a kind,” according to Burberry’s backstage Twitter update. Floral garments paired with shearling coats/ponchos are just one example of how Christopher Bailey created chic juxtaposition with each ensemble. Cara Delevigne closed the show in a customized, color-blocked poncho that led us to ponder the question: is the poncho making a comeback? From pastels to rich tones, from florals to color-blocked tribal prints, this season’s line is a vision of Bohemian variety.
As NYFW came and went it brought with it some fabulous designs. Metallic, fur, and bold prints dominated the runway from February 6th to 13th. My guess is that these trends will impact our future wardrobes in a major way.
And speaking of Rodarte…
These designers have shown us that there IS a way to beat the polar vortex. With bold prints and fabulous furs of course!
