SPRING TRENDS

The weather may not reflect it just yet, but spring is definitely upon us. And soon it will be time to break out a wardrobe full of shorter sleeves, lighter layers, and brighter colors.

Check out these hot trends for a perfect spring wardrobe.

PASTEL

Fashion month undeniably proved that pastel is number one this season. Much like floral print, pastel is a spring classic that goes great with warmer weather. Pastels are subtle enough that you can wear a head-to-toe look of one color without worrying about standing out in the wrong way. Try pairing two separate pastel pieces to create a blended look of fun and sophistication.

COORDINATED SEPARATES

Clover Canyon

Saks 5th Avenue and Erin Walsh collaborated to produce a youtube video explaining a few key tips and tricks for pairing coordinated separates this spring. Printed pieces are lovely and sure to always turn heads. An especially irresistible tip is to pair a printed crop top with a long pencil skirt of the same print. These body conscious, or “wetsuit” style, separates hug your body in a way that is great for a night out but also conservative enough for the office.

OVERSIZED BLAZER

The blazer is not just for the office! A staple piece to any wardrobe, it can be dressed either up or down. Casual trousers, a basic tank and a blazer can turn a day time look chic. This season the biggest blazer trend is really more of a light coat. A long blazer, either solid color or printed pattern, paired with trousers creates a balanced look that is perfect for professional and casual outings alike.

MILAN FASHION WEEK

COLOR BLOCKING 2.0

Fausto Puglisi changed the game on everything we thought we knew about color blocking. His designs opened MFW with bursts of bright colors arranged in triangular patterns. Accents of black leather and bejeweled studs gave a distinct edge to these eccentric, mostly short-hemmed garments. Safe to say, Fausto Puglisi’s conception of color blocking is anything but boring.

PALE PINK

Pastels were apparent on and off the runway in Milan, but one shade stood out more than the rest. Not only was this color featured in shows like Gucci, but also in an overwhelming amount of looks on the street. Street style this week was all about the pale pink overcoat. Similar to the statement coat we saw at NYFW, only now, in addition to bold prints, solid pink pastel is the next piece we should all check off of our spring wish lists.

Designer Spotlight:

GUCCI

This season the iconic Italian designer produced an astonishing collection of mod-inspired ensembles, including sharply-lined pastel suits, and dresses with leather and fur accents. Almost each fabulous piece was teamed with smart eyewear, giving the emblematic line the feel of a major 60’s revival, which we obviously love. There was buzz about Gucci toning down their "signature sex appeal,” but maybe we don't mind that so much. It seems Frida Giannini effortlessly found a way to embody the idyllic wardrobe for any fashion-savvy PR girl; sophisticated, yet entirely glamorous.
